Who Doesn't Like Watching Naked Blue People Run Around?
Some people believe that the movie Avatar was "robbed" when it did not win Best Picture, and I agree. This film is one of the most revolutionary of it's kind. Extreme amounts of effort and detail (for example the tiny dots in the Navi's faces, or the way there skin crinkles when they talk) was put into this movie with positive results. The movie took over eight years to create, amd it uses ever technoligical advancement to it's disposal, like the fact that it is a 3D movie. The graphics were better than any other movie at that point in movie history. The Navi people have such realistic features and great movement that mimics human movement identically. Additionally the landscapes and scenery were created beautifully and looked very realistic, well, maybe not the glowing plants. The glowing plants, and the glowing specks in the Navi's faces is an interesting touch. Not only is the animation of the film fantastic, but the storyline is also superb. There are good conflicts, invigorating battle scenes, and even a romantic element that has a "Romeo & Juliet feel to it. It's tragic and moving, and the movie is full of emotion. Avatar deserved to win Best Picture because of it's success of an emotional story portrayed so vividly and sincerely through the animation.
